Overview

Large-scale dataset handling application for geological sample inventory management in the Oil & Gas industry. Real-time tracking, storage receipts, and analytics.

Tech Stack

ReactTypeScriptRuby on RailsPostgreSQLAWS S3RedisElasticsearch

Key Highlights

1

Engineered data pipeline processing 100K+ geological sample records with sub-second search

2

Built barcode-based inventory tracking system integrated with warehouse scanning hardware

3

Designed storage receipt workflow with digital chain-of-custody verification

4

Implemented analytics dashboard with drill-down geological data visualization

The Challenge

Geological survey companies were tracking millions of rock and soil samples across dozens of warehouses using legacy systems. Samples would get misplaced, chain-of-custody records were incomplete, and generating inventory reports for regulatory compliance took weeks of manual effort.

My Approach

I built GSP as a full inventory lifecycle platform — from sample intake with barcode scanning, through storage allocation using warehouse zone mapping, to retrieval and chain-of-custody tracking. The search system uses Elasticsearch to let geologists find samples by composition, location coordinates, depth, or collection date with instant results across the entire dataset.

Key Contributions

Designed the warehouse mapping module that visually represents storage zones, racks, and shelf positions for physical sample location tracking. Built the analytics engine that generates stratigraphy reports and sample distribution heat maps. Created the bulk import pipeline that processes CSV uploads of 50K+ records with validation, deduplication, and conflict resolution.
